CPP strongly criticizes the role of Pakistani TV and Print Media.

(ATTOCK – August 1, 2012).             Media associations, newspapers and TV owners on one hand are voicing and advocating for the freedom and independence of press and media but on the other hand these media organizations, newspapers and TV owners are themselves acting against the principles of freedom of press and expression and running their TV and newspapers business purely on commercial basis and against the national interest of our country.

Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP) maintained that TV and newspapers owners either physiological fears from the ideology of the Communists and Communist Party or they are so biased against the communists that none of their TV and newspapers mentioned the famous quote of the founder of Communist Manifesto Karl Marx which he said “Law is like the nose and it can be rotated by the ruling elite, the way they like it.”

This was said on the face of Supreme Court by the CPP Chairman, Engineer Jameel Ahmad Malik while arguing the Contempt Law before the Supreme Court (SC), a day or so before but this statement was totally black out in TV and newspapers by the so-call champion of freedom of press.

The Chairman of CPP while arguing his case against contempt law in SC also brought into the notice of the larger bench of five judges headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) that in China Communist Republic, which is a secular and non-religious state but neither its President nor Prime Minister has the immunity not to appear in any Court of law.

He said that in China, vide its Article 41, the Citizens of the People’s Republic of China have the right to criticize and make complaint to any state organ or functionary and Courts are bound to summon and redress their complaints whereas in Pakistan, which is a Muslim country but vide our Article 248 says, “No criminal proceedings whatsoever shall be instituted or continued against the President or a Governor in any court during his term of office.”

Even this above statement of CPP before the Supreme Court was intentionally ignored by the so-called champion of freedom and independence of press in their TV and newspapers.

Engineer Jameel also stressed during arguments before SC that according to Islam, Holy Qur’an and Sunnah, not even Caliphs or any rulers or persons has the immunity and protection as now allowed in section 3(1) of the contempt of court law by incorporating Article 248(1) in the aforesaid section.

CPP Chairman said that he observed while sitting in the Court that the CJP and other Judges don’t hesitate at all in making political remarks but as and when if the petitioners mentions any political remarks during his arguments, he is snubbed very rudely and in a dictatorial manner by the CJP, on which the Communist Party of Pakistan has strong reservations.

CPP Chairman, Engineer Jameel said that such an attitude and conduct of CJP Muhammad Iftikhar Chaudhry and other superior judges are not only against the natural principles of justice but also against the principles as enumerated in the Code of Conduct of Judges, which, otherwise, is morally, lawfully and legally binding on all the Judges including CJP.

It may be recalled here that the Communist Party challenges the newly enacted Contempt of Court Act, 2012 in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, copy of this whole petition can be read at CPP website of www.cpp.net.pk
